When? House Bill 259 has passed. The state ruled that named driver policies can no longer be issued or sold starting on Jan. 1, 2020.
What is named driver? In short, a named driver policy provides coverage for those named on the policy. The exact definition according to the bill:
“A named driver policy is an automobile insurance policy that provides any type of coverage for individuals named on the policy but that does not provide coverage for every individual who has permission to use a covered vehicle and who resides in a named insured’s household.”
How it impacted you: Your agency may have sold named driver policies in the past, obtaining verbal disclosures and getting confirmation signatures. Selling these policies took more time in order to make sure your agency was protected.
We encourage you to take action now by moving these policies to legal policies.
